DESCRIPTION

The Catalina 320 was launched in 1993, and Gracie Elaine is the 9th hull made! Owners had a mantra for the 320 which was “This boat is really fast, and is surprisingly spacious.”

The 320 stands out from earlier models because design modifications altered sailing characteristics while increasing the living space belowdecks. The primary motivation was to increase performance by making the boats easy to handle. To do this they moved the mast forward, resulting in an increase in the size of the main and a reduction of the jib. This makes it easier to balance the rig, allowing you to depower by furling the jib or changing to smaller headsails before reefing. In addition, the rudder size was increased and redistributed to generate more lift per square foot of wetted surface. The new shape is deeper and results in a higher aspect ratio.

The hull tapers outward with a gentler angle to the max beam (11.75ft) which makes a spacious cockpit and more space below. It was noted that the bilges in early models like the Gracie Elaine are shallow, but baffles were typically added to help alleviate sloshing midship.

Gracie Elaine has two cabins, one to the starboard aft side of the boat with a large berth that extends under the cockpit. There is a wet head just forward of the aft cabin with a u-shaped galley to port of the head. There are two settees in the salon, with the starboard being a wraparound that extends into a berth. The v-berth is large enough for two adults as well.

There is no dinghy available.
