DESCRIPTION

Carmana is ready to explore the PNW with you. She is a masthead sloop with fin and spade rudder hull. Built by Ouyang Boat Works in Whitby, Ontario. The Aloha line came to be after the owner, Ouyang, selected a design submission from Mark Ellis which became the Aloha in 1979. They continued production until 1988 after having built approximately 700 hulls.

The hull is solid fiberglass, the deck is cored with end-grain balsa. The Aloha 32’s keel-stepped mast supports a high-aspect ratio masthead sloop rig. She is light so accelerates well in light air with the owner doing 4 knots in 7 knots of true wind.

Carmana is built on the “alternative” layout with a workshop, sail bins, and stowage replacing the V-berth. The saloon has opposing settee berths in between the keel-stepped mast running down the center of the saloon. There is a well-sized wet head to starboard, and L-shaped galley to port. There are two quarter berths, both port and starboard at the very aft of the interior.

Carmana just had single line reefing updated, with two reefs lining back to the cockpit.

There was a complete engine overhaul in 2022 resulting in the engine having less than 100 hours since. In May 2024 the engine and transmission was serviced including new fuel filters, impeller, and heat exchange zinc. In August 2024 Carmana was bottom painted with zincs replaced as needed, including the shaft zincs. The owner used Biobor algicide in the fuel tank as of July 2024.
